Work Vessels for Vets

Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m John Niekrash, President and Founder of Work Vessels for Vets; an all volunteer, non-political organization made up of business folks just like yourself, who are trying to make a difference for our returning veterans.

Our story is simple. As a commercial lobsterman, I donated my boat to a returning veteran when I was moving to a larger boat. I wanted to help someone jump start his own fishing career, and especially someone who had given of himself to serve our country.

Our concept has grown. We have partnered with marinas, musicians, computer specialists, State VA groups and so many individuals to help our veterans. We have donated over forty laptop computers, three boats, a van and our requests for assistance continue to out-pace our ability to fulfill them.

Today, I’m writing to you to request your help. We have been contacted by a returning vet, a Purple Heart recipient, ninety-percent disabled due to mortar attack during his tour in Iraq. Working with other veteran organizations he has turned to farming, blueberry cultivation in Florida. He has started this farm as a sanctuary for himself and other veterans as a place to work, but also a place to utilize horticulture therapy to re-engage their lives in the civilian world. This group is in need of equipment: a small tractor, transport cart or golf cart-style vehicle to assist in the transport of their materials and in some cases their colleagues.

Included here are photos that they sent us of their operation:

I’m asking if you or your company would be able to assist us in acquiring the necessary equipment to help us fulfill their request.

In addition, we also recently completed a donation event in Columbus, Ohio that inspired one of our Board Members and partner, Dave Mason, to pen a song we hope to be hearing a lot more in the months to come. “Thank You” was written as a summation of all that our organization is trying to do. Please visit our link to the You Tube video that captured the event and the background of the tribute song.

Thank you for your consideration. Your help in our growing endeavor is greatly appreciated by many.
