CALIFORNIA MUSIC FEST 2009 VOLUNTEERS

We are now seeking volunteers for the 2009 California Music Fest. We are looking for people to work in a variety of departments, including pre-festival set-up, the information booth, catering and hospitality crews, sponsor booths, conference registration, conference monitors, festival production, and many, many more. We are looking for volunteers who are flexible and who are ready, willing, and able to go anywhere on the event site and at our host hotel to lend a helping hand and who are excited to be a part of a major community event.

Volunteers play an extremely important role in setting the positive and empowering vibe for the whole CMF experience, because they’re the face and voice of the event for festival patrons and conference attendees. So, we need special people to make the CMF experience spectacular. We want everyone to remember that the festival is stellar not only for the great independent music, envigorating surf session and stimulating visual art, but also because of the congenial, friendly and supportive staff they encounter!

This opportunity is only for folks who don’t mind working. If you just want to attend surf sessions and watch and see bands, then we prefer you either buy a badge or a festival wristband. The focus of the volunteer program is attendee services. Here’s what that means:

  • help guests figure out their coordinates and destinations
  • assist box office and registration staff
  • ensure that festival attendees are safe and getting their fun on
  • help attendees with physical limitations access the music festival and conference and enjoy the show
  • help keep the festival grounds clean by encouraging guests to recycle To apply for a position in the 2009 CMF volunteer program, click here:

What type of jobs/departments could I be working in?

There are a variety of different departments including festival and conference set-up and coordination, registration, information booth, sponsor booth, catering and hospitality crews, VIP set-up and maintenance, recycing, and Access, etc. Most of these positions are what we consider “Front of House” positions, and while we do have limited backstage, VIP, or production positions for volunteers, these positions require experience.

Volunteers are on hand to help out when and where they are needed. You may end up getting pulled from one area and shifted to another, based on changing needs. The key is to be flexible and willing to lend a hand.

Will I be assigned to cleanup detail?

All clean up is handled by a private company contracted by CMF to clean the event site. However, volunteers will not be assigned to port-a-potty clean up duty, but will be expected to manage waste and recycling efforts.

What is the street team effort?

Go to Fancorps.com/CAMUSICFEST to join our streetteam. With their point system and reporting system, you can be rewarded for your efforts and get cool CMF stuff, including VIP All-Event badges, kick-off party passes, and cool merch. For further questions contact: streetteam@camusicfest.com

We encourage all of our volunteers to join the Fancorps street team so you can receive special updates and information that only volunteers and street teamers are privvy to.

What’s it like to volunteer?

In July in Ventura, CA it’ll be hot work. Most jobs are mobile and require standing or walking for
extended periods of time. Make sure you are up for this - it’s not a free ride and we depend on
volunteers to follow through with their commitment.

What’s in it for me?

Beyond the personal satisfaction and total enlightenment most volunteers experience, gratitude of CMF organizers, and long-lasting friendships, there are tangible benefits. Volunteering gets you in to the event, plus an Official Volunteering for CMF t-shirt!

Do volunteers get to see the show?

All volunteers are free to enjoy the show while not scheduled to work so long as you arrive on time and ready to work when scheduled.

Can I request to work with a friend?

While we do our best, keep in mind that all requests are NOT guaranteed.

What happens after I register to volunteer?

Your information will be added to the volunteer database. Qualified candidates will be contacted by someone in the volunteer program to discuss opportunities. Once selected, volunteers will receive email reminders that include assignment information, logistical details, roles, responsibilities and any other pertinent information. For this reason, it is imperative that you have a valid email address that you check often. Please note that by filling out an application, you are not assured a role in the festival. We have about 3 times the number of applicants than we have positions to fill. We will contact you whether you are selected or not, but if you have not been contacted by July 10th, it is unlikely you will be placed.

Will I be trained to perform my job?

Absolutely! Prior to the festival, you will receive detailed instructions on your role. All volunteers will also have a volunteer orientation.

If your question is not answered in this FAQ, please e-mail the head Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteers@camusicfest.com. Please note that due to an overwhelming number of volunteer questions, we will not respond to a question if the answer to the question is in the FAQ above.
