California Music Fest is a celebration of the California Culture (Music, Surf & Art).

California Music Fest [CMF] is in Ventura, California. The surf expression sessions take place on the Ventura Beach. The music festival is held in the entertainment district in downtown Ventura, California 3 blocks for the beach area which is approximately between Chestnut Street and Oak St. & Main. The outdoor festival stage is at each end of the district in Mission Park with 15 participating venues in between each of the outdoor stages. Everything is within walking distance of each other.

California Music Fest is the first weekend in July, July 3rd & 4th 2009.

The surf expression sessions are during the days from 7 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the music festival is nightly with gates at 3:00 p.m. and music beginning at 3:00 p.m. on outdoor festival stages and 3:00 p.m. on club and venue stages and all music ending around 1:40 a.m. each night. There are approximately 75 bands that play a night for a total of 150 bands for two days.

When can we arrive for the music festival? When do we have to leave?
The ????? Ticket & Wristband Redemption Booth will be open starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd and 4th, 2009. The gates for the outdoor festival stages will be open at 3:00 p.m. daily on July 3rd and 4th, 2009. The event site will close each evening at 2:00 a.m.

I’m not driving because someone is dropping me off. Where is the best place to enter the event site?
The best place to enter is the same areas where the City of Ventura’s shuttles are dropping off folks. On the north side of the event site the drop-off location is at California and Santa Clara St.. On the south side of the event site the drop-off location is at past Mission Park.

Where are the closest airports to CMF?
The commercial airports are either Oxnard, CA, Santa Barbara, CA or Burbank Airport.

Our official airlines is Southwest Airlines.

Will you be providing any shuttles to/from the airport?
Currently we do not offer this service. However, car rentals are available at all airports or may take the Amtrak (Train) from either the Santa Barbara or Burbank airport. Each are located very close to the airport and drops you off blocks from Downtown Ventura,CA Festival location.

Is there seating at CALIFORNIA MUSIC FEST or is this standing room only?
California Music Fest is an outdoor festival atmosphere, which means that everything is General Admission and there isn’t seating in our outdoor festival stage areas. Venue stages are in official clubs, bars and restaurants, so there is generally some type of seating around the venues, but it is standing room only in front of all the stage. We do not allow you to bring your own chairs to the event site, but there will be limited chairs available for rent. However, be aware, there’s a lot of folks at CMF and the festival stages are in large parking lots, so you’ll just have to find your place and get comfortable like most typical outdoor events. You can bring a blanket to sit on, but generally CMF crowds stand, but you’re free to do what you want. We just want everyone to have fun. And remember, we’ve got 15 venue and one outdoor stages, so it’s unlikely you’ll want to be in one place all evening because you’ll want to explore and see as many acts as you possibly can. Keep in mind, our festival stage area is gated areas with 8-foot fencing with blackout, so you’ll need a festival wristband to see acts on the outdoor festival stages and also to enter official California Fest venues.

What is your re-entry policy?
Vehicles are not allowed within the event site. So, we’re talking about you physically here. As long as you have on your official California Fest Wristband, you can come and go as you please at California Music Fest on both evenings. Remember, when you leave Friday night, don’t take off your wristband - you’ll need it to get access again on Saturday night. If security finds that your wristband is loose or has been tampered with, cut and stapled, cut and paperclipped, cut and taped, or anything similar, your wristband will be deemed invalid and you will be required to purchase a new one in order to have access to CMF stages and venues. So, don’t remove that wristband until California Music Fest is over. This policy is strictly enforced.

How many bands are playing and when and where are they playing?
We have approximately 75 bands a night playing on 15 different venue stages and one outdoor stage all located in the Downtown Ventura Entertainment District. Every stage is within walking distance of every stage and even within walking distance of the host hotel, the Clock Tower Inn. Stages are listed on the Stages page. The schedule will be announced in early June so you can start planning who you want to go see at California Music Fest.


Will tickets be available for purchase at the front gates?
If the event is not sold out, tickets will be available for purchase at the ????Tickets.com Ticket & Wristband Redemption Booth, which will be open starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd, 2009. The???Tickets.com Ticket & Wristband Redemption Booth is located in the parking on California St..

Please keep in mind, you can save money and time by purchasing your California Music Fest two-day festival tickets in advance at an official ???Tickets.com outlet or online at CAMUSICFEST.com and ????Tickets.com. Walk-up pricing is $40.00 plus a service fee of $3.50 plus a greening fee of $1.50 - Total $45.00. Tickets in advance are $30.00 plus a $3.50 service fee - Total $33.50. Save money, you already know you’re coming to California Music Fest, so buy in advance.

Will VIP badges be available for purchase at the Festival?

I bought my festival two-day pass online. What happens when I get to CMF? What am I supposed to do with my ticket (eTicket or hard ticket)?
You will need to go to the????Tickets.com Ticket & Wristband Redemption Booth in the lot off California St. to use your ticket to redeem your festival wristband. We are prepared for tens of thousands of folks to show up to redeem their wristbands for tickets they bought at a ticket outlet or online, so there won’t be long lines, but you must redeem your ticket for a wristband before you can get access to the festival stage area and/or California Music Fest venues. The wristband redemption will be open beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd 2009. You may also redeem your wristband with your ticket at our California Music Fest registration booth at the Clock Tower Inn which is open Thursday, July 2nd from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 3rd from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can I bring my kids? Do they have to pay?
Children are welcome at this event. Children 6 and older will be required to have a ticket/wristband.

When will the tickets be sent out?
If you decide you want your tickets to be shipped instead of getting a free eTicket delivery, then Tickets are shipped immediately the following business day after you purchase them. There is an additional $2.50 fee per order if you choose to have your tickets shipped.

IMPORTANT: The cut-off for tickets to be ordered and shipped is June 1, 2009, otherwise you will have to print an eTicket. Please remember to have your tickets shipped to an address where you or your authorized representative will be.

Can you tell me where I can check the status of my ticket, how can I change the mailing address etc?

Can I get a one-day pass?
One-day passes will not be sold to the event.

What can I bring into the show?
We encourage you to be prepared for California Music Fest with sunscreen, cool clothing, earplugs, a designated driver, disposable cameras, and money, etc. Please be aware that large bags, messenger bags, fanny packs, and purses will be searched each time you enter the CMF event site/venue, so you may wish to secure your valuables in your car to avoid being turned away at the gates. The following items will NOT be permitted into the California Music Fest event site/ venues (we reserve the right to add items to this list if necessary): coolers, camelbacks, outside alcohol, glass containers/bottles, plastic bottles (other than sealed or empty clear plastic water bottles), outside food (with the exception of small snacks), outside beverages, video recording devices, professional cameras (anything other than small personal or disposable cameras), laser pens or similar focused-light devices, lawn chairs, weapons or explosives of any kind, illegal substances, large backpacks, beach umbrellas or any other items that might impair the sight of other spectators. There is NO check-in area for disallowed items. All patrons will be subject to a search by security personnel. Please be advised that the security company, facility, promoters and performers will not be responsible for any items confiscated during search procedures.

Can we bring water / camelbacks into the CMF event site/venue?
No, however we will have many vendors and venues offering bottled water for sale. Camelbacks are absolutely not allowed.

Will we be allowed to leave the show and come back?
Yes, when you have exchanged your ticket for a wristband, you will be able to go back and forth between the California Music Fest venues and festival stage areas during scheduled performance/gate/door times and the hotel and parking areas.

What is the taping policy going to be? Will we need to get tapers tickets?
Audio Taping will be permitted for select bands only. The festival reserves
the right to prevent and forbid taping of certain performances depending on the artist. Each stage will have a designated taping area, which will be on a first come, first-serve basis. No Tapers Tickets will be necessary.

Will cameras be allowed in the California Music Fest event site/venue area?
Small personal and disposable cameras will be allowed in the venue area.
Professional cameras and video taping will NOT be allowed. If you wish to get a photo/video pass, you need to fill out our PRESS credential application. Contact info@camusicfest.com if you have further questions concerning photo passes.

Will chairs be allowed in the California Music Fest event site/venue?
You will not be allowed to bring in your own chairs to the California Music Fest event site. There will be a limited amount of chairs available for rent. We encourage you to bring blankets instead of chairs to keep the festival stage area less cluttered.


What types of food and beverage vendors will be on hand? Will they be reasonably priced?
There will be a variety of vendors in the California Music Fest Event Site that will provide a variety of interesting, diverse, and reasonably priced food and beverages. Vendors on the site will be providing late lunch, dinner and late night snacks. Additionally, there will be a reasonably priced late-night breakfast bar at the Clock Tower Inn from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. nightly and free black coffee in the Clock Tower Inn Lobby from 11:00 p.m.-4:00 a.m. nightly if you need a late-night pickup before heading home after the festival. There are great restaurants in the Ventura Downtown Entertainment District as well that will have food and beverages for sale during the event. For health and quality reasons, unauthorized food vendors pose a risk to festival goers. Unauthorized food vendors are not permitted and will be shut down to alleviate that risk.

What types of other Vendors will be onsite?
There will be a variety of vendors selling high quality crafts, merchandise and California Music Fest memorabilia. California Music Fest is committed to selecting quality merchandise vendors. The unauthorized sale of merchandise in the event site is not permitted, and California Music Fest is committed to ensuring a successful event for the authorized vendors of California Music Fest.
Additionally there will be California Music Fest artists selling their merchandise and we encourage you to support the California Music Fest artists by buying their merch. California Music Fest artists will be selling merch in their performance venues and the outdoor festival area will have a central artist merchandise area. As well as the California Music Fest information booth will have California Music Fest memoorabilia for sale.

Can you send me info on becoming a vendor at California Music Fest 2009?
To get info on becoming a vendor at California Music Fest 2009 you will need to email us at vending@camusicfest.com to request to download the vendor information and complete the application form. Send the completed application via U.S. Mail to the address indicated in the information packet. Applications must be received by June 1, 2009 to be included in the initial review and acceptance process. Applications will continue to be accepted after June 1st until all spaces are filled.. E-mail applications will not be accepted. If you have questions, please include them with your application.


I want to attend the CALIFORNIA MUSIC FEST, where can I buy an VIP All-Event Badge and how much does it cost?
Go to our Registration page at okctickets.com and you can purchase badges there.

Currently badges are at the advance purchase price of $100 plus service fee. They will be available for the advance price until July 2, 2009. After June 28th, standard all-event badges will cost $150 plus service fee for badges purchased online from June 29th and including walk-up badges. Save money and buy your badges early.

Do I need to buy a festival wristband too if I want to see the bands play at the music festival?
No, your VIP all-event badge will get you access to all the public festival events, so you don’t need to buy anything else to attend CMF.

All-Event Badges will NOT be mailed out. You must register in person to pick up your badges. You will need a valid ID to pick up your All-Event Badge. It is also helpful if you bring your badge purchase confirmation that you received from ????Tickets.com

I just found out I can’t attend for a really good reason. Can I get a refund?
All of our materials, both printed and on the web, clearly state in multiple places that California Music Fest, ticket, badge and wristband registrations are non-refundable.

All registration materials and the website form state “Payments are non-refundable for any reason including, but not limited to, failure to use California Music Fest, tickets, wristbands, and VIP Badges or any credentials due to illness, acts of God, travel-related problems, and loss of employment…unused registrations , tickets, wristbands and VIP badges have no value and cannot be credited to future years or events”.

There are NO REFUNDS/NO EXCHANGES on festival tickets and wristbands.


How can I play at CMF?
From February through May we accept submissions by SonicBids or by mail. You must submit an application to be considered for a showcase performance at California Music Fest.

Where do I go to submit an application to CMF?
As of now submissions for California Music Fest 2009 will begin February 1, 2008. We will have an initial online form at that time and then you can complete your submission on SonicBids or by mail.

I’m a booking agent, how do I get my band booked at CMF?
If you’re booking for what we consider an emerging or unsigned artist, you will still need to go through the application process. For established artists who are routing their summer tour schedules, you should contact our head of talent buying, Mark. Requests to Mark will only be addressed for national acts by established booking agencies.

Are there still slots available at CALIFORNIA MUSIC FEST 2009?
Yes, right now we have just begun the booking process and will be filling over 150 bands slots of all genres.

I received a standby artist notice, is there a chance I might be playing?
There is actually a slim chance that standby artists could be invited to showcase still. If you have not been contacted by June 3rd, then it’s probably safe to assume that we weren’t able to find a showcase slot for you. We will do our best to email you and let you know for sure by June 7th. We usually do keep a handful of artists on hand as standby artists clear up until the event, because you’d be surprised - everything from broken bones, van breakdowns, etc. can cause a band to cancel in the 11th hour and the standby bands that are planning on coming to CALIFORNIA MUSIC FEST anyways to use their artist badge they receive simply because they submitted an application are usually the bands we select to fill these last minute showcase openings.

I am a standby artist (or a non-selected artist), what’s this free badge you’re talking about that we get?
Every artist who submits a complete application is eligible to receive one complimentary VIP all-event badge to attend the event. If you were not selected to showcase at California Music Fest whether you’re a non-selected artist or a standby artist who we have yet to invite for a showcase, email artists@CAMUSICFEST.COM and we’ll get you on our artist database for one VIP all-event badge. Who in your act gets to use the badge is up to you, but it is good for all the VIP Privileges and the festival.

We do this because we have over 1000 submissions to California Music Fest and just because your band is not selected does not mean that we want to exclude you from the Festival and the opportunities that go along with the festival. Many worthy acts have been turned down simply because we only showcase 150 artist at California Music Fest.

I’m a non-selected or standby artist and I emailed CMF for my free badge, but no one has gotten back to me.  Have you forgotten about me?
Absolutely not. We have your email in our database and you wil be contacted by mid-June to complete a simple form so that you can get registered for your free badge. Hang in there, we’ll get to you shortly - it’s important to us that you’re able to Festival, so we won’t forget to follow up with you.




What are the requirements of volunteers?

  • All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, no exceptions.
  • All shift times are approximate and may vary. We will do our best to keep things fair and consistent, however shift times and total work hours will not be the same for all volunteers. Volunteers must be flexible.
  • Volunteers agree to be on time to all assigned shifts.
  • Volunteer positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Volunteers are preferred be residents of Ventura, California and the surrounding community.
  • Regular email access is a must - most communication is via email.

When do we have to show up?
Check-in dates are as follows: Volunteer Orientation is June 20, 2009 at 6:00pm at the Clock Tower Inn. Job assignments will be given out, volunteer orientation and safety policies will be covered.

Surf Volunteers - Friday July 3rd & 4th 7 am-3:00 pm Ventura Beach.

Festival & Production Volunteers - July 3rd and 4th, 2008 1:00 pm-11:00pm Mission Park down from the Ventura Entertainment district.

If you are accepted into the volunteer program, you will receive more specific information about your volunteer assignment and work schedule. We do have some pre-event duties that happen the week before California Music Fest so you will be contacted if you indicate your availability to help with those duties.

What type of jobs/departments could I be working in?
There are a variety of different departments including festival and expression session set up and coordination, registration, information booth, sponsor booth, catering and hospitality crews, VIP set-up and maintenance, recycing, and Access, etc. Most of these positions are what we consider “Front of House” positions, and while we do have limited backstage, VIP, or production positions for volunteers, these positions require experience.

Volunteers are on hand to help out when and where they are needed. You may end up getting pulled from one area and shifted to another, based on changing needs. The key is to be flexible and willing to lend a hand.

Will I be assigned to cleanup detail?
All clean up is handled by a private company contracted by California Music Fest to clean the event site. However, the park area will need some assistance with maintaining waste and recycling efforts.

What is the street team effort?

What’s it like to volunteer?
In July in California, it’ll be hot work. Most jobs are mobile and require standing or walking for extended periods of time. Make sure you are up for this - it’s not a free ride and we depend on volunteers to follow through with their commitment.

What’s in it for me?
Beyond the personal satisfaction and total enlightenment most volunteers experience, gratitude of California Music Fest organizers, and long-lasting friendships, there are tangible benefits. Volunteering gets you in to the event, plus an Official Volunteering for California Music Fest t-shirt!

Do volunteers get to see the show?
All volunteers are free to enjoy the show while not scheduled to work so long as you arrive on time and ready to work when scheduled.

Can I request to work with a friend?
While we do our best, keep in mind that all requests are NOT guaranteed.

What happens after I register to volunteer?
Your information will be added to the volunteer database. Qualified candidates will be contacted by someone in the volunteer program to discuss opportunities. Once selected, volunteers will receive email reminders that include assignment information, logistical details, roles, responsibilities and any other pertinent information. For this reason, it is imperative that you have a valid email address that you check often. Please note that by filling out an application, you are not assured a role in the festival. We have about 3 times the number of applicants than we have positions to fill. We will contact you whether you are selected or not, but if you have not been contacted by June 1st, it is unlikely you will be placed.

Will I be trained to perform my job?
Absolutely! Prior to the festival, you will receive detailed instructions on your role. All volunteers will also have a volunteer orientation.

What if my question isn’t answered here?
If your question is not answered in this FAQ, please e-mail the head Volunteer Coordinator, volunteers@camusicfest.com. Please note that due to an overwhelming number of volunteer questions, we will not respond to a question if the answer to the question is in the FAQ above.


What is the security going to be like at CMF?
Event security and bicycle and foot patrol will be located throughout the site for the entire duration of the event. If you have an EMERGENCY, find a staff person with a radio, go to an information tent, or tell one of the security personnel.

What are the exact set times?
The exact set times (and set lengths), stages and dates of performances will not be announced until late June. Please check back or join our eNewsletter to receive updates.

Take care of yourself, please eat enough, drink enough water (it’s really hot in July, so it’s important to stay hydrated), and get enough rest so that you can enjoy the second day of California Music Fest as much as the first.
